ISOPROPYL MYRISTATE is a synthetic oil made from isopropyl alcohol, a propane derivative, and myristic acid. It is also a naturally occurring fatty acid.

This common cosmetic ingredient can be found in a variety of beauty products, including aftershaves, antiperspirants, and anti-aging lotions.

BENEFITS

• Strengthens the skin barrier. Isopropyl myristate helps strengthen and protect the skin's outer layer. Consider the skin barrier as a brick-and-mortar structure, with cells serving as the bricks and lipids as the mortar.

• Isopropyl myristate acts as a mortar, plugging up crevices between skin cells and preventing moisture loss.

• Moisture-locking properties are particularly beneficial for dry to normal skin types. This product is suitable for most skin types, with the exception of those who are allergic to it or actively seeking to decongest their skin.

• Synergistic Ingredients: Combines well with most substances. Improves the penetration of other substances. Belkin suggests that isopropyl myristate alters the structure of the stratum corneum, the skin's outermost layer, facilitating the absorption of active substances. However, the exact method is unknown. This can improve the effectiveness of your skincare products.

• Isopropyl myristate can improve the texture of skincare products, giving them a smooth, creamy feel without being oily. Isopropyl myristate can improve the texture of items. It thickens the product, improving its sensation on the skin upon application. The formulation avoids oil-based substances from feeling too greasy or heavy, resulting in an even emulsion.

• One of the main benefits of isopropyl myristate is its ability to kill bacteria. As a result, it is widely utilised in hand sanitizers. Isopropyl myristate's fast evaporation makes it ideal for use in cosmetics and hand sanitizer products.

• IPM is an effective fixative for perfumes, preventing evaporation on the skin and extending their shelf life. This is a great alternative to perfumer's alcohol, making your oils sprayable without the alcohol scent.

SOLUBILITY: Soluble in most solvents, but insoluble in water.
Usage rates for lotions and creams range from 2% to 20%, while lipstick and lip balms are 1%.

HOW TO USE: Prepare the oil and water phases of your composition separately. Use a double boiler to heat both the water and oil phases. Add our isopropyl myristate to the hot oil phase and stir continuously. Mix both parts with a mixer until the desired consistency is reached.
