Astaxanthin, high in carotenoids (Vitamin A), is a powerful antioxidant that prevents premature ageing by removing free radicals. ROS induces lipid peroxidation in the skin's top layer (stratum corneum), reducing its natural barrier function. Astaxanthin scavenges ROS on the skin's surface, reducing moisture loss and maintaining smoothness. Astaxanthin inhibits UVB-induced inflammation through the NF-kB kinase pathway. Skin health improves with reduced stress levels.

Astaxanthin, a fresh algae, is believed to be more effective than vitamins C and E in removing free radicals that cause premature ageing. This potent antioxidant substance requires only a small amount to be effective. To create your own antioxidant skincare cream, gradually add a few drops to your foundation until you get the desired colour. It also promotes skin rejuvenation by reducing the effects of ROS. Excessive ROS can degrade collagen, increase matrix metalloproteinases (MMP), and cause wrinkles and loss of suppleness.
