INCI name: Sodium C14-16 Olefin Sultanate.
Molecular formula: C14H27NaO3S
Alternate names: Sodium (2E)-2-Tetradecene-1-Sulfonate, 2-Tetradecene-1-Sulfonic Acid.
Active surfactant content: 38%.
TYPE: Surfactant.
DESCRIPTION: Alpha Olefin Sulfonate (AOS) is a highly foamy but moderate anionic surfactant.
BENEFITS AND USES:
• Effectively cleanses skin without removing natural oils.
• Mix this into your shampoos and conditioners to make some fantastic sulfate-free products.
• It is safe for the skin and the environment.
• It effectively resists hard water, making it an effective detergent and cleanser. • Additionally, it improves formulation viscosity and is commonly found in liquid detergents.
• Easily biodegradable.
• Broad pH stability
• Ideal for sulfate-free formulations.
• High viscosity • Breaks water's surface tension to remove dirt, grit, and grime • Forms micelles in water to bind dirt to the hydrophobic end, which is rinsed away with water.
USES: Body wash, face wash, shampoo, pet shampoo, shower gel, bubble bath, etc.
Solubility: Water is insoluble in oil.
Recommended usage levels: 10%-20% for face wash, 15%-30% for shower gel, bath foam, and shampoo.
Maximum Usage Level: 30.
pH: 11.5-12.5
HOW TO USE:
• Melt any surfactants of your choosing.
• Combine AOS with the melted surfactant base.
• Pour the base into the cold water phase first, followed by the oil phase.
• Stir to adjust the pH.
Precautions
Pure use levels can cause skin irritation.
When combining, always observe these precautions:
• Use disposable gloves. • Exercise caution when handling hot oils.
• Wear eye protection and work in a well-ventilated area. • Keep hot oils and components away from children. • Seek immediate medical attention if consumed.
• If contact is made with the eyes, rinse immediately with clean, warm water and seek medical attention if in doubt.
